James Maddison: Newcastle makes second transfer offer in the region of PS50m to Leicester for midfielder
Newcastle has made a better offer for Leicester’s midfielder James Maddison in the region PS50m; the Magpies had an opening PS40m bid for the 25-year-old at the weekend. Foxes believe that the former Norwich man is worth closer to PS60m.
Leicester believes the Foxes highly value Maddison. He joined them for PS24m in June 2018 from Norwich, at a cost closer to PS60m.
Newcastle’s offer to Maddison was accepted. This would make Maddison the club’s most expensive signing, surpassing the PS40m Hoffenheim paid for Joelinton in July 2019.
Maddison was a Leicester player last season, scoring 18 goals and providing 12 assists in 53 games across all competitions.

Brendan Rodgers, Leicester’s boss, wants Maddison to stay. After Sunday’s 1-0 friendly victory over Sevilla, he joked that PS40m would “buy three-quarters” of Maddison’s left leg.
Leicester is the only top-flight team yet to sign a player this summer. Rodgers insists they won’t be taken advantage over Maddison and others.
“There is a financial situation within the club that isn’t ideal for wanting to do business. He said that it doesn’t necessarily mean we will be exploited and that we don’t want our best players to go.
