She left Jamaica at 28 to go to the UK as a Jamaican Scholar. There she worked in an architecture firm.
She attended classes in the evenings at the City Literary Institute in London, where she stayed for two years before being awarded a scholarship to The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Finally, at 33 years old, she graduated from the famed drama school.
