The former chancellor Rishi Sunak announced a slew of new support measures in May to combat the cost of living problem.

The rising energy cost and inflation have significantly hit households and added hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars to their annual bills.

Mr. Sunak confirmed that the PS200 incentive for energy will now be doubled up to PS400 and will not be required to be paid back.

The minister also declared a windfall tax on energy companies as well as a PS650 one-time payment to help those who are most vulnerable in the country the most vulnerable, the first installment of which will be made this week.

Who is eligible for this PS650 grant?

The grant is paid to recipients of means-tested benefits.

Means-tested benefits are according to your income and the amount of capital you own – provided that you can prove that your money and income are not lower than a certain threshold, they can be considered eligible.

Do I have to fill out an application?

No. If you’re eligible for the grant, you do not have to apply; it will be paid directly to you.

When do I receive the cash?

The Government has announced that the payments will be made to families in lump sums of two, including PS326 being paid on Thursday, 14 July, and PS324 in the fall.

The tax exemption will not impact the cap on benefits, and it will not affect existing benefit awards.

The Government has clarified that the payment amounts are slightly different to differentiate between the two periods of qualifying payments.
