You will more than likely run into some difficult college classes that seem like there is no way you will be able to pass. I dealt with this nearly every semester my junior and senior year. Which comes to another great quote: “The only limitations are the limitations that you put on yourself.” Everything is possible. You can get an A on this extremely difficult class.
A Guide To Getting The Grade
Here is a secret formula if you will to passing every class to the best of your ability…
1. Get started as early as possible
If you know it’s going to be a very difficult class, try to get the syllabus and the book as early as possible. Get the fall semester book at the very beginning of summer. Spend at least 30-60 minutes every day during the summer to read the book. By the end of the summer, you will more easily be able to understand the teacher. You will also find yourself knowing much more than your classmates. If it’s the second semester, you can still spend the few weeks you are at home over break to read the textbook. You don’t have anything better to do! You might as well work hard over break so you can spend more time having fun with your friends when you get back.
2. Learn how to manage your time
I talk about it so much because it is so important. You can get an amazing amount of work done if you manage your time well. You can learn to get more work done in less time. It’s an acquired skill! You aren’t born with great time management. It’s something you have to learn and apply. And once you do, I know you won’t regret it. So, good thing is to write down your plan for a day. 3. Make good use of office hours
Get in the habit of visiting your professor’s during their office hours. There are so many good things that come out of this. You can politely ask them to go over something again if you don’t understand. Second, they may slip you a secret or two. I’ve often gone to their office hours and learned something, and they flat out say, “Make sure you know this question because it will be on the midterm.”

4. Don’t do it all alone
It’s often easier to learn something from a classmate then it is your professor. Because your professor knows the material so well, they often forgot how little you know it. A classmate knows how hard some things are, and he or she can teach it to you from a different (and often better) perspective. But the secret to this is a help and be helped. Do your best to help other people out as well. The more you help other people, the more likely they will help you when you need it the most. And don’t neglect to help someone because you think there is no way they will ever return the favor. This is never true.
I’ve helped some people that were completely clueless. People that I never thought in a million years would be able to help me with anything. And almost always in that same quarter, we would do a new project that they would get done well before me. And they never would shy away from helping me if I asked. So just remember to help and be helped. This is important in everything that you do.
And Finally
The most important thing is not to quit. It may seem tough. Maybe even impossible. But work hard and do the best you can. Accept whatever grade that you get and move on. It’s not the end of the world if it’s not quite what you were looking for.
